About this tour

The Tudor Trail takes you beyond central London’s familiar sights, following a journey shaped by royal ambition, riverside life and centuries of history. Along the way, open landscapes replace the city skyline, deer graze in ancient parkland and Hampton Court brings the Tudor world into view.

With a maximum of six guests, you’ll enjoy a personal experience with time for questions, photographs and the unexpected discoveries that make exploring by bicycle so rewarding. Your British Cycling-qualified guide shares the stories behind the places you pass, connecting the scenery around you with the people who helped shape it.

Your adventure begins at Battersea Power Station with a friendly welcome, bike fitting and safety briefing. Once everyone is comfortable, set off towards the Thames and London’s greener outskirts. Electric assistance helps you along the way, leaving you free to enjoy the changing surroundings while still experiencing the satisfaction of a proper ride.

Richmond Park brings a remarkable change of atmosphere. Its sweeping grassland, mature trees and free-roaming deer feel a world away from the capital’s busy streets. Once a royal hunting ground, it remains one of London’s most memorable landscapes. Pause to appreciate the views and look for wildlife, keeping a respectful distance as the deer go about their day.

The route also takes in historic Ham House, viewed from outside, and Bushy Park’s broad avenues and open parkland. These places reveal how closely royal life was connected to the river, with grand houses, hunting grounds and palace estates forming part of a much larger landscape of wealth and influence.

At the heart of the adventure is Hampton Court Palace. Its imposing exterior provides the setting for stories of Henry VIII and his six wives: marriages shaped by love, politics, succession and the struggle for power. Hear about the personalities behind the familiar names and the decisions that changed their lives—and the country’s history.

There’s time to admire the palace from outside and take photographs. This is a guided cycling adventure rather than an interior palace visit, so admission to Hampton Court and Ham House is not included.

A break on Kingston’s lively riverside gives you the opportunity to buy lunch or refreshments, enjoy the atmosphere and rest your legs. The journey continues by bike back to Battersea, bringing together riverside scenery, royal history and a sense of how far beyond the usual tourist trail you’ve travelled.

The tour covers approximately 33 miles (53 kilometres) and lasts around 5.5 hours, including sightseeing, photographs and refreshment stops. It’s best suited to people who ride regularly and are comfortable spending several hours on a bicycle. Your e-bike provides assistance, but you’ll still be pedalling and handling the bike throughout the journey.

For visitors looking to explore further—or Londoners curious about what lies beyond their everyday routes—the Tudor Trail offers a rewarding adventure through the capital’s royal landscapes, with six wives, two wheels and plenty of stories along the way.
