FAQs

What makes our tours different?

Forget crowded sightseeing tours and endless central London landmarks. Our adventures take you beyond the usual tourist trail and into London’s greener, wilder side — through royal parks, alongside the Thames and into landscapes where deer roam freely.

You’ll ride a quality electric bike, making hills and longer distances a breeze. We keep our groups small, with a maximum of six riders (four on Windsor), so the experience feels personal, relaxed and never crowded.

Every tour is led by a British Cycling Ride Leader who is first-aid trained and fully insured, with helmets and water included. And on our Windsor adventure, even the ferry crossings and train journey home are taken care of.

Less traffic, more nature. Smaller groups, bigger adventures.

Will I be cycling through busy London traffic?

Mostly riverside paths and park roads, linked by sections of road, with the guide leading throughout.

Am I fit enough, and do I need e-bike experience?

All our tours are for confident cyclists – you must be comfortable riding and handling a bike on paths and roads, so they’re not suitable for beginners. The e-bike helps with effort, not with balance or control. The Richmond Round Robin is our relaxed ride: most of the 20-mile route is flat and the e-bike gives you a boost on the hills. The Tudor Trail and London to Windsor are longer days, best for people who ride regularly. There’s a safety briefing before setting off. Minimum age 16, no upper age limit.

Can I come on my own?

Yes – solo riders are welcome. On the Tudor Trail you can either book a place on a shared tour (£119), which runs once at least 2 riders are booked – if a second rider hasn’t booked by 24 hours before, you’ll get a full refund or can move to another tour – or book a private Solo 1-2-1 Adventure (£299), which always runs, just for you. Richmond has a private Solo 1-2-1 Adventure from £259, Tudor from £299, and Windsor from £444.

What’s included in the price?

Every tour includes an e-bike, helmet and guide. Bottled water is included on every tour, but please bring a spare bottle or money to buy more. Food is not included. Lunch is an optional extra on Tudor and Windsor, for shared and private groups; it is not offered on Richmond. A private hour on the river (self-drive electric boat) is an optional extra on private Tudor Trail tours only, arranged by email after booking and priced per boat. Palace and castle entry is not included: we view them from outside and do not go inside. Windsor includes ferry crossings and the train home.

Is lunch included on the longer tours?

The Tudor and Windsor tours both include a lunch stop. You can add lunch for £15 per person, bring your own, or pick something up along the way.

Do we stop for photos and a rest?

There are toilet, refreshment and photo stops along the way. We ride at an unhurried pace.

What should I bring?

Bring a waterproof jacket (it’s England), closed shoes, a small rucksack and sunscreen. Bottled water is included on every tour, but please bring a spare bottle or money to buy more. A correctly fitted cycling helmet must be worn whenever you’re riding. We provide one free of charge. If you’d rather not wear a helmet, you won’t be able to take part in the ride and a refund won’t normally be available.

Is it safe?

The guide is a British Cycling-qualified Ride Leader and first-aid trained, we carry a first-aid kit, and we hold £5m public liability insurance.

What happens if it rains, or I need to cancel?

Tours run in light rain and typical London weather, so dress for the forecast. If we decide conditions are unsafe (heavy rain, high winds, flooding, extreme heat or official warnings), we cancel and offer a new date or a full refund. If the tour goes ahead and a guest chooses not to come, the normal cancellation policy applies. Full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before your tour. No refund within 24 hours or for no-shows.

Where do we meet?

Electric Boulevard, Circus Road West, Nine Elms, London SW11 8DD. We meet by the lifts on the upper level, next to the children’s playground, near Wagamama.

What if I am running late?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your start time for check-in and your safety briefing. We leave on time. Like a train, we can’t hold the whole group for one late passenger. If you haven’t arrived by the departure time, your place is forfeited and treated as a no-show, with no refund. Private groups: if there’s no booking straight after yours, we may be able to wait a little. Just email us if you’re running late.

What if I have a medical condition?

If you have a heart condition or any other medical condition that could affect your ability to cycle safely, please email us before booking so we can check our insurance covers you.

What are the rider rules?
  • Stay behind the ride leader; don’t overtake.
  • Use your bell only when needed.
  • Stay at least 50 metres from the deer and never approach, feed or touch them, because they’re wild and protected.
  • Follow the guide’s instructions.
What wildlife might we see?

Look out for wild red and fallow deer, woodpeckers, ring-necked parakeets, kestrels and Egyptian geese. Sightings are never guaranteed, because they’re wild.

Planning Your Ride

What if my e-bike has a problem?

Our guide carries tools and spares and can fix most issues – like a puncture or a slipped chain – on the spot. If a bike can’t be fixed, we’ll get you back on the road with a replacement hire bike nearby, so your adventure carries on.

Can lunch cater for dietary needs?

Yes – vegetarian, vegan and other dietary needs can be catered for. Just tell us when you book, or email booking@southlondonbiketours.com at least 48 hours before your tour. For severe allergies, please contact us before booking.

Can I bring luggage?

We’re not able to carry or store luggage, so please travel light – a small rucksack is perfect.

What language are the tours in?

All our tours are guided in English.

Is there a minimum number of riders?

Shared tours on all three routes run once at least 2 riders are booked. If a second rider hasn’t booked in time (24 hours before on Richmond and Tudor, 72 hours before on Windsor), you’ll get a full refund or can move to another date. Private tours always run.

Gift Vouchers

How do I buy a gift voucher?
