About this tour
Royal parks, palaces, kings, queens, knights, rebels, wild deer and a tiny Thames ferry – an adventure that just keeps on giving.
Saddle up beneath Battersea Power Station, ride through Battersea Park past the Peace Pagoda and follow the Thames west. Then London disappears. In Richmond Park, a former royal hunting ground, stand on King Henry’s Mound and look east to St Paul’s Cathedral – then turn around and look west towards Windsor. It looks ridiculously far away. That’s because it is.
Descend past historic Ham House, cross the Thames by tiny ferry – bikes and all – and ride through Bushy Park to Hampton Court Palace, Henry VIII’s royal playground and our halfway pit stop for lunch.
Then the countryside opens up. At Runnymede, where King John met the barons in 1215, we visit the Magna Carta Memorial. One final push – and around 40 miles after leaving Battersea, you dismount beneath Windsor Castle.
Then relax on the train back. At Vauxhall we remount for a victory lap past MI6 and the US Embassy, and follow the Thames home to Battersea. Full circle.
